Beccles Town Council, St Michael’s Church and other local organisations and individuals worked together to provide a well-attended weekend, which aimed to enable local people to learn more about the consequences of climate change and to encourage consideration of what positive responses we can make.
The weekend started with a primary schools’ workshop. The main programme brought together local MPs and councillors, environmental specialists and experts on subjects ranging from heat pumps to water quality. A dozen organisations provided stands in the church. Artwork from several local schools demonstrated children’s thoughts about how we need to do more to look after our planet.
On Sunday lunchtime interested people gathered to discuss how to build on the shared learning from the weekend. It was decided to form groups to focus on the following:
1. Land, biodiversity and water quality
2.Raising awareness of climate change issues, particularly among children and young people.
3.Recyling, repairing and reusing
4. Sustainable transport
5. Reducing energy use in our homes and using green energy.
Please register your interest in joining one or more of the groups by contacting Beccles Town Council at chris.greenhill@becclestowncouncil.gov.uk .
