Council Crest Watermark

Meetings

All sixteen councillors meet in a full council meeting at least once a month. In addition the council operates a number of committees to consider proposals in detail.

Schedule of meetings for 2026-27: Meeting schedule 2026-27

Did you know that all Beccles Town Council meetings are open to the public to attend?

Why should I come?
It gives everyone the chance to see democracy in action and how decisions that affect people’s everyday lives are taken. You can also have your say on any issue being discussed, which helps councillors to know the strength of feeling on any issue.
If you’re thinking of putting yourself forward to be a councillor, observing a meeting is an excellent way to see what the role involves.

Which meetings can I attend?
Residents are welcome to attend any meeting, either full town council or any of the council’s five committees. Anyone can come along in person to the meeting or alternatively you can ‘dial in’ via Zoom to observe any of our meetings.

When and where do the meetings happen?
Full Town Council meetings take place at 7pm on the first Tuesday of each month. Committee meetings are held on various evenings, starting between 5.45pm and 6.30pm. All meetings are held in the Town Hall in The Walk (opposite Specsavers).

How do I know what’s going to be discussed?
Agendas for meetings are published at least three days prior to each meeting and are posted both in the notice board outside the Town Hall and on this web page.

Can I contribute to the meeting?
As well as observing meetings, there is also the opportunity for residents to speak at council meetings. There is an agenda item at all full council meetings for contributions from members of the public. Residents are also able to speak at committee meetings, including Planning & Highways Committee, which discusses all planning applications in Beccles. There are rules about the conduct of meetings so any public contributions are limited to one part of the meeting.

Do I need to tell you in advance that I’m coming?
No, anyone can just turn up to any meeting.

Representatives on outside bodies

Councillors aim to integrate with the Community by offering to represent the Council on local groups and organisations. This involved the Councillors being invited to attend meetings and reporting back to Council as appropriate. The Representatives are agreed each year and the list was most recently revised at the Council’s annual meeting on 19th May 2026.
