Beccles Town Council employs two street cleaners, Michael and Steve, whose role is to carry out weeding and sweeping on town centre streets to help keep the town looking its best. Their work complements the work done by East Suffolk Services staff, who empty bins and pick litter.
If you want to report an issue with the town centre that you think needs our attention, please email admin@becclestowncouncil.gov.uk or call us on 01502 712109.
The Beccles Bombles is a dedicated volunteer group committed to maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of Beccles. Every Tuesday at 3pm, these passionate individuals gather and embark on litter-clearing missions throughout the town. Their efforts encompass various areas, venturing “underground” (such as cleaning up underpasses), “overground” (clearing streets and parks), and regularly tackling litter on the Beccles Common.
Unfortunately, much of the discarded waste they encounter is unsuitable for reuse. This highlights the impact of littering, extending beyond the items commonly left behind by residents.
The Beccles Bombles believe that even a small investment of time from everyone in the community can make a significant difference. By dedicating just a few minutes periodically, we can collectively transform Beccles into the pride of the Waveney Valley.
If you’re passionate about environmental stewardship and keeping Beccles pristine, we encourage you to join the Beccles Bombles! They’d be happy to welcome you and provide details about their next litter-clearing sweep. All necessary equipment, including bibs, litter pickers, and bin bags, will be provided by the group.
Beccles Town Council works to ensure resident safety during winter by providing grit bins for designated hazardous paths within Beccles. Due to budget limitations, there’s a waiting list for new bin placements.
If you feel a grit bin is needed in your area, please submit a request to the Town Council. Your request should include details of a nominated person responsible for spreading grit during snowfall, and a diagram illustrating the most suitable location for the bin.
To inquire about the waiting list or submit a request, please call Town Hall on 01502 712109 during office hours, or email admin@becclestowncouncil.gov.uk.
Note: Suffolk County Council is responsible for filling the grit bins before winter.
