Each year Beccles Town Council, through nominations provided by the community, make awards to those in voluntary roles in the following three categories:
THE LESLIE FREEMAN AWARD FOR LONG SERVICE
THE ROBERT (BOB) ELLWOOD PLATE FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE IN THE COMMUNITY
THE EILEEN CRISP AWARD FOR YOUTH
Nominations from the community for any of these awards should be made by Wednesday, 28th October 2026 and sent by email to admin@becclestowncouncil.gov.uk, completing our online nomination form or by post to the following address:

Nominees must either live or work in Beccles. Nominees cannot be awarded the same award twice for work for the same organisation.
Nominations must contain a brief description (100-300 words) of the nominee, i.e., length of service; their role in the organisation or as an individual, and/or any other details pertinent to their volunteering role.
The nominee must not be made aware that they have been nominated.
When the Council have made their decision, both the nominee and their nominated person will be notified and invited to the Christmas Town Council meeting at the Town Hall on Tuesday 15th December at 7pm.
The Mayor will present the winner with an award for their category.
Do you know someone who has dedicated a significant part of their life serving the Beccles community?
As an example: A nominee was presented with the Leslie Freeman Award for Long Service for her three decades of dedicated collecting for the British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Do you know someone who has given outstanding service to a local organisation?
As an example: A nominee was awarded the Robert Ellwood Plate for Outstanding Service to the Community for his fundraising cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise funds for the Access Community Trust and the Salvation Army, to assist their work to help the homeless
Do you know someone who has given outstanding service to the youth of Beccles or a Beccles youth who has given outstanding service to the community?
As an example: A nominee gained The Eileen Crisp for Youth award for her work training and mentoring younger sea cadets
